As part of a new basement extension, Concept Landscape Architects were tasked with many planning, technical and design challenges for this Hampstead House Landscape Design. This semi formal modern garden uses clipped and squared up Hornbeam trees as an avenue route, with yew and box hedges and different heights to create structure and form.
The upper terrace has a bespoke kitchen in Iroko that is complemented by a floating Iroko bench, granite clad walls and surrounded with black bamboo, dicksonia and olive trees. From there one is led to a black granite fire-pit which planted with Mediterranean style plants, and an event lawn creates space for entertaining. The rear deck terrace is a destination, and specimen Amelanchier trees and other exotic plants create a lush environment.
Working alongside a team of professionals, our work moved from sketch and concept design stages, then onto meeting local authority planning and garden suburb trust approvals. From here our design work developed through to tender, construction details and onsite supervision.
This rear garden space is almost entirely constructed over a new subterranean development, with raised upper terrace granite paving onto pedestals, the lower garden space being part infilled with polystyrene blocks to create a lighter weight mass. Underground drainage is a mix of traditional land drains with porous layers to help move water to a central tank and pump.
